*UPDATED
Review:
For an album that is only slightly good, I have no idea why they're going to such great lengths to take all the links down. I guess they're just a buzz band and they'd like to keep their shit secret or something. Whatever the cause, this album is very hip and sort of fresh. It's nothing too exciting or groundbreaking. It's just cool. The melodies are nice, such as the first track "Untrust Us" which sounds like there should be some Heart-like singing but instead we're treated with indistinguishable crooning and what not. Most of the tracks are like this, starting with an interesting beat and melody but the vocals are hardly understandable. Some of it reminds me of "math-rock" or similar bands like XBXRX, with more electronic noodling. It might get old quick or catch on like fire, who knows. The rest of the album is solid, hopefully by the time of the official release, more cohesive as some of the tracks sound like they should be mixed together but aren't. The vaugely punk "Alice Practice", disco "Crimewave", "Courtship Dating", ode-to-the-80's "Vanished" and "Knights" are my current picks.

So silly. Crystal Castles are the, in my opinion, the only 8-bit band worth a grain of salt -- the only rough-edged, electro-dance act producing unexpected pop hits.
You seriously aren't hearing genius when you listen to Knights? what do you listen to?
looks like you didn't get past two sentences of my review, hurrah for you.
No masterpiece, but no piece of shit either. The more sedate & experimental elements of this LP bode really well for the(ir) future I think? And, I agree, they're probably (still) "the only 8-bit band worth a grain of salt". IBx
i feel they're in the middle. and as far as the whole 8-bit argument i've got 4 letters for you: YMCK. it's also subjective to what you consider 8-bit but that's pretty much the tits of pop 8-bit. i do agree that crystal castles makes good danceable tunes. it's nice. really. their lack of focus on any particular sound makes them a novelty, and their experimentation in 8-bit is pretty limited and repetitive.
